Great photos, Joyce! I was going to comment on this, and then I noticed the post below and read that you have a new camera. I see you are enjoying it.
I have found myself watching the roadsides much more this year as I drive by, noticing the grasses and the prairie plants. Thanks to you, I can now identify the compass plants!

Thanks, Rose! I'm loving playing with the camera and feel all arty when I'm lucky enough to get shots like these. In the first one, I was trying to get a butterfly that was on the flowers, but it wouldn't cooperate with me! And in the last one, there was a nice v of geese I hoped would be in the background, but somehow missed them, and they wouldn't have been in focus anyway. So I have a lot to learn!

Beautiful, simply poetic. Thanks for the pictures

The older I get, the more I appreciate the beauty of Central Illinois. For too many years, I took for granted the colors and textures of life "on the prairie," thinking that somehow we were missing out on things like mountains and beaches. But now I realize how much I really love the fields and the trees and the grasses. Thanks for sharing your photos; they're wonderful.

This is a comment for Lisa--you have voiced my sentiments exactly!

Thanks, ladies! I don't know why, but I just love our landscape here, so I guess I live in the right place. I enjoy travelling elsewhere, but it always lifts my spirits to get back to where it's flat and you can really see the sky. And the grasses and wildflowers are so beautiful! If you haven't checked out the gct13.com blog on my blogroll, you really should. He takes pictures of building projects for the local tourism office, but if you scroll through there are some beautiful shots of the prairie landscape, and his skyscapes are to die for. I wish I could handle a camera the way he can!
