The Quit Now Challenge

Today I bought a retractable clothes line and my handy-dandy husband just attached it to the back of the house. So, tomorrow I'm back in business for hanging wash!! I've been wanting to do this since reading Green Bean's lyrical post on the joys of hanging her laundry out. Now, Chile's given me the kick in the pants I needed to get this done. Thanks, guys!

Now, we have had 6 inches of rain in the last five days, so that should tell you that it will take a fair amount of commitment to do this faithfully. The ground is still a little squishy out there, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good weather tomorrow so I can get this show on the road.

well as long as this one doesn't tip over into a mud puddle I s'pose you will be ok... :)

I would try this, too, but the allergy specialist advised against it since it gets pollen stuck to your clothes.

Grant, we may have to be seasonal with it, depending on which things we are allergic to. But I've been hanging things in the laundry room for a while now, only throwing socks and underwear in the dryer for one load a week, so this is just an additional way to do things. In the winter, everything dries inside very fast because of the furnace. In the summer, I'd rather get that moisture out of the house, if possible.

I think people with allergies, or people who live in very damp places like Louisiana, should not feel guilty if they need to use the dryer.

I've just visited Green Bean - thank you for the mention. It's a great blog. I'm a clothesline fan, too, but not for all my laundry. Mostly I hang pants and socks and sheets. I've got a line on the lawn, one on the porch, and another one in an upstairs room. I love your words, 'handy-dandy.'

"handy-dandy" is something she's always said and I find myself using it sometimes. Mom has a whole list of great little sayings, like "woppy-jawed" and "whose-it".

Hey, I'm all about the regional coloquialisms!

This morning I was out hanging wash at 6:45 hoping it would dry before the next round of storms. The wind was blowing a gale and I was being pelted with winged maple seeds, like they were shot from a shotgun. I could hardly keep ahold of the clothes, and when they were hung they blew straight out horizontally. Hopefully none of them will wind up in Rantoul! I was thinking, "Hmmm, not quite the peaceful experience I was remembering."

I am actually jealous of your rain. Arnold just declared statewide drought a couple of days ago. Urgh!

Though I can hang my clothes dry any time of the day for months, I'd rather have days that it rains so much that I can't put anything out.

Cindy, I sure don't want a drought, but I think we could use a breather on the whole thunderstorm/tornado warning/flash-flood deal. Hundreds of people in town have flooded basements.

Now, when it gets dry in July, don't anyone hold me accountable!
