Back to the Blog World

This evening, one of my faithful readers said, "Mom! You never write anything on your blog any more!" Not wanting to lose this reader, who may be the ONLY reader I have, I decided to post again.

First, I will give you all my lame excuses for going a month without writing:

1. I was busy. Or, at least, distracted. I was serving as general contractor for a big household make-over, involving siding, gutters, demo of a rotting back porch, rebuilding of said porch, and the very sad removal of our huge tulip tree that was deseased and threatening to fall on either the roof or the car. Although I did not do this work myself, it was surprisingly challenging to coordinate the many people who did.

2. It's hard to maintain the pretense of being a "garden blogger" when there are concrete mixers driving over your lawn and ladderjacks in your flower beds. The best I could muster up in the way of gardening was to walk around the property every evening clucking about the damage the workmen had unwittingly done.

3. Additionally, the aforementioned faithful reader moved out. I was to be the helper with this move, but within minutes of arriving at the new location I managed to fall down the rain-slicked porch steps, requiring a trip to the ER and a month of rehab on an injured rotator cuff. I don't know why, but that kind of threw me off my stride, so to speak.

All that is now behind me. The school year and choir season have resumed. There are no more excuses! It's time to get this blog going again! You can expect posts about the hymn of the week, the rehabilitation of my gardens, and the usual general musings, along with some Saturday Silliness and Sunday Strolling. I will amuse at least myself, and perhaps that one other reader.

Welcome back, Joyce! And you do have more than one faithful reader:) I've been a little worried about you and thought about trying to contact you to see if you were okay...but I can understand completely with all that has been going on for you, not having the time or motivation to blog. I recently helped Youngest Daughter move, too--though the only physical casualty for me was a lost crown:) I'm adjusting getting used to a real empty nest. Hope your rotator cuff is on the mend--take care of yourself!

Rose, the shoulder is on the mend, and I, too, am trying to adjust to the empty nest. We've had kids in the house for 30 years. I keep waiting for someone to walk in the door and tell me about their school day!

I'm one (she says with her hand in the air)! I look forward to more regular postings, Joyce. Scary about the fall. Glad you are mostly alright.

Glad you're back! I should talk, though -- I just realized I hadn't posted anything since 8/17, and really it's been longer than that since I post dated some stuff. :) It's crazy around our house, too, getting ready to move. I totally sympathize with how much time it takes to manage contractors. At this moment, I'm reading other people's blogs instead of calling back the contractor who didn't return my calls already. Anyway, I enjoy your blog so I'm happy you're writing again. :)

I can only claim to be an irregular reader, on my erratic meanderings around the blogosphere; but I can sympathize with you, and I'll join in prayers for a quick and full recovery for your rotator cuff. (Our organist in Colorado couldn't lift one of her arms above her shoulder because of past rotator-cuff surgery--something had gone wrong, I don't remember what--so I've learned to take that seriously.)

Are you taking note of us all?? =) Glad to hear you're back, even if it's sporadically. Looking forward to hearing about more hymns! I didn't grow up knowing most of them since I was Catholic, but now I am trying to learn some to teach the kids. They are so comforting and many times I find myself feeling like the writer 'gets' me and what's going on in my life. Which, seems so odd since it was written in the 1800s or something! Anyway - write on! We'll keep reading!

So sorry to hear about your fall! I had an injury that has thrown me off, too.

Glad you're back :)
